5 Common Crypto Exchange Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

Mistakes during crypto exchange happen even to experienced users. We’ve gathered the five most frequent situations that lead to delays or loss of funds. Read this — it might save you money and nerves.

1. Incorrect Tag or Memo
For coins like XRP, XLM, TON, and some others, you must inсlude a tag (memo) when transferring. Think of it as an apartment number in a large building — without it, it’s unclear who the funds are for. If you forget the tag, the funds will get stuck and require manual recovery.

How to avoid it: always copy and paste the tag from the order. Do not try to enter it from memory.

2. Sending to the Wrong Network
USDT exists on several networks: TRC20, BEP20, ERC20, SOL. If you send USDT via the ERC20 network to an address meant for TRC20, the funds will most likely be lost.

How to avoid it: before sending, double-check that the network name in your order matches the one in your wallet.

3. Incorrect Recipient Details
One wrong digit in a card number, phone number (for SBP), or wallet address — and the money goes to the wrong place. Recovering it will be very difficult or impossible.

How to avoid it: verify the recipient details twice. Pay special attention to the card number and phone number.

4. Sending an Amount Different from the Order
You sent 105 USDT, but the order said 100? Or slightly less? The order might get stuck, and the exchange rate could change by then. At best, it will be recalculated at the new rate; at worst, you’ll have to create a new order.

How to avoid it: send the exact amount shown in the order. No more, no less.

5. Paying with Old Order Details
You created an order, didn’t pay on time, it expired, and then you sent money to the old details. The funds will be sent, but the systеm won’t see them — it will be waiting for a payment for the new order.

How to avoid it: always check that your order is still valid. If in doubt, contact support before sending.

Remember: It’s better to spend an extra minute checking than to spend a week dealing with lost funds. If something goes wrong, contact our online chat or email us at support@unionxbit.com. We’ll try to help.
